1. TIP
When roe deer move from the forest to open areas, the chance of spotting bucks is highest.
2. TIP
Once you know your territory and the right spots, you should now target the right time. Roe deer usually move to open areas in the early morning and early evening hours, as this is when they feel most secure.
3. TIP
Knowing the bucks' roosting and grazing spots well in advance gives you a certain advantage during the hunting season. The so-called "roosting buck" returns to these spots regularly, marking its territory there for the upcoming rut. Game cameras help ensure that these spots can be monitored without disturbing the deer. This allows you to keep an eye on the roebucks around the clock and determine the times they are there.
4. TIP
During the first few weeks of the buck hunting season, the likelihood of seeing a deer is highest. The meadows begin to turn green, roe deer become more active, and are more frequently seen in open areas. Furthermore, the vegetation is not yet tall enough to cover the carcass, allowing the deer to hide unnoticed. This makes it possible to reliably approach the bucks.
5. TIP
Since temperatures aren't yet as high at the beginning of May, there are more sights to see at this time. When temperatures are too high, roe deer rest mostly in the forest during the day. Only when temperatures drop in the evening do the animals move to open areas to graze. Therefore, an early morning ambush is worthwhile on hot summer days. During this time, the deer move from their hiding places to the grazing areas. However, the deer may also already be on the grazing areas and then move back to their hiding places.
6. TIP
Of course, the roe deer rutting season plays a crucial role. During this time, both the chances of seeing them and a good kill are very high. The bucks become very active and are on the lookout for does. Anyone who is skilled at handling leaves or, more traditionally, a beech leaf during this time can quickly lure a buck from its hiding place.
